Happy Birthday Walt Disney

Walt Disney's birthday was on December 5. To celebrate this in the classroom, we read a nonfictionbook about Walt Disney. We discussed the facts and talked about what a biography was. They kids made a Mickey Mouse head and wrote three facts about Walt Disney. Then for math, they made another Mickey head and represented a number three different ways.

We also got our picture taken with mouse ears and a famous Disney saying. We enjoyed this day!

Dover Air Force Base

Dover Air Force Base is an amazing place to visit! This has to be one of my all time favorite field trips!

I think that it is so important for my first graders to be able to visit a place that is so important such as this. Many of the students in our school are affected by this place due to many of theirnfamiliy members are deployed!

The boys love this trip because of the opportunity to walk into and explore the huge aircraft! The girls also love this part of the trip!

What I love is the guides are veterans and this is so important for my kids to be able to aw and interact with veterans! We just completed our unit on veterans and  they were so excited when they saw that our guide was a veteran from nktnjust one war but two!

Here are some pictures from our trip! Check out these huge planes!!!

My kids loved the airplanes! They also loved touring the museum! What really amazed them was the number of ping pong balls that would fit on their largest plane!

We saw a rocket and got our picture in front of it!

We got our picture taken by an air plane!

We took a selfie!

We got to sit in seats like passengers!

We loved it! It was an awesome day!!!

Voting: Mojo or Katie for Class President!

It is that time of year when we are to vote for our President of the United States. I will have to admit, I was a little nervous about teaching this this year because of the deep feelings for the candidates!

So I made the decision that I was going to focus on the election process and just announce the new President!

So what did we vote for??

As you all know, I am in love with Class Dojo! So Mojo and Katie were running for class President!

The kids heard their two platforms and had to think about what they heard. They then had the opportunity to place their vote.

They all received a ballot and were to fill it out and place it in the ballot box!

They loved this! Check them out!!!

So after their votes were cast, we added up the results and guess who is our new Class President????????????

It is Mojo!!!!!!

This was truly loved by them!

50th day of school

I know this post is late! Life got in my way! I know what a surprise!

Anyway we celebrated our 50th day of school not too long ago and can I just tell you I love this day!

The girls and the boys dressed up! The boys were asked to wear white shirts and jeans and the girls were asked to wear long skirts, blouses and scarves!

Look how cute they were!

I love my giant jukebox that I got from oriental trading! It is a blow up and it is easy to store!

We read a book and what it was like in the 50s and how it is different from today! Then we did a word hunt for 50 words. We also made little stand up people and did several puzzles and fun pages.

We had a bubble blowing contest!

Here are a few more pics of my kids!

We ended our day by making homemade milk shakes!!!!

Of course we can't forget to include a picture of our lightbox!!!

American Symbols

This is kne of my favorite things to teach my firsties!! I absolutely love teaching the American Symbols!! We have learned two so far and those are the Statue of Liberty and the Liberty Bell!

What do I love about these you may ask???!! Well, my kidsvm excitement!! Their eyes light up with all of the awesome facts they hear! I also love the looks on their faces when they look at the actual pictures that I took when I visited them!!!

So for the Statue of Liberty, we learn all about the Statue and all of the amazing facts! Of course we have to make predictions about the size of her foot and nose!!!

We draw her and of course dress up as her and get our picture taken!!!!

Now for the Liberty Bell, we learned about the facts, saw where it is located, got to hold the liberty Bell made out of Legos, hold a metal model of it, do an experiment with two bells (one with a crack in it and one without a crack). In the experiment they had to listen to see if the two bells sounded the same or different and figure out why!! They loved it! We ended the lesson with a directed drawing of the Liberty Bell!

Next week we will learn about the election and then the White House! Have a great day!!!
