AAAAArgh You Still Shopping???

Well, here we are! It is week 2 of the

Boy, have I had a busy!!! I am moving so I have to pack up my house so my cart was filled with more then just school supplies this week!

Before I show my cart, I have a little quote that really cracked me up and I think it relates to many of us! I put it in my post about the 10 Things I Learned from teaching but it fits here as well!

So now onto my shopping this week!

I went to three stores this week: Target, Party City and Staples! I went crazy in Party City!

At Party City, I found some cute lanterns and fans to hang from my ceiling. I also got some eye patches for my AAAAAAAArgh You Having a Birthday pictures, pirate pencils for their birthday bags and a pink mustache pencil topper and pencil!

I am going to use the Pink Mustache as my talking stick, They will hold it in small group when they Mustache me a question!

I was disappointed with Target this week! :( They were cleaned out but I was able to get my Story Cubes. I was very excited about this. I will be using these in small groups and also to choose what they will be writing at times in their journals! We will also be using them to create class and group stories together.

My last stop was Staples!! Of course I found some things that I NEEDED!!!! They had amazing pens onsale and of course their 25 cent deals are worth the trip!

Now, I did buy other things that are not pictured because they are for my Back To School Blogger buddy!

Well, gotta get back to packing!!! I move on Wednesday!!!

I can not wait to see what is in your cart!!!

Happy Shopping, everyone!!!!!!!

10 Things I Learned from Teaching

I have linked up for this great linky withMiss Kindergarten. I have been teaching for many years and to narrow it down to just 10 really took some thought! LOL!!

So after much thought, here is my list of 10 things that I have learned from teaching:

1. There is no such thing as having too many school supplies!
This makes Staples, Walmart and Target very very happy!! But normally not your significant other!!

2. My classroom is never done! I am always finding new things to do, add, change etc. Pinterest in a teacher's best friend!

3. Brain breaks are a teacher's best friend!

4. Do not expect them to remember the rules about the supplies or to  have the same amount of supplies daily! There is such a thing as the crayon burglar... it does not matter how you have your kindergarteners hold onto their crayons, they are missing daily!! Yes, you will have to remind them daily about the rules of glue!!!

5. Always be prepared for their answers. You may not  get what you are looking for the first time you ask a question in Kindergarten. Their quotes and answers are priceless! Always write them down to make you smile later on!!!

6. Going to the bathroom is no longer a need during the school year! Bathroom time is a valuable commodity during the day!

7. Watch what you say because there are always those little ones who take you literally!

8. Always be prepared because if something is going to go wrong it is when administration comes in for a walk through or observation so we always must....

9. Always always make sure the custodians, specialists,  secretaries, cafeteria workers and the nurses are your best friend!!!! You never know when you are going to need them! Especially in Kindergarten on days we use glitter!

10. Being a teacher is the most amazing and rewarding profession one could ever have. There is no place else on Earth where you get continuous hugs, complements daily and touch the lives of our most important commodity on Earth: Children!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is a video that I thought was amazing!

I did it!!!

I have been working on this for a couple of days and I can proudly say,  it is done!
I had this plain wooden table in my classroom and I was bored with it.  So I painted the top with chalkboard paint and painted the words dream, imagine, explore and laugh along the outside.  For the legs I bought funky ribbon at AC Moore on sale for 2.00 a spool and covered the legs and outside edge using spray adhesive.  I think it came out pretty good! !!!

Enthusiasm!!! Do you have It!!! Chapter 6 of Teach Like A Pirate

Oh my!! I am a little behind in my book study so I will be posting several chapters over the next two days!!

This chapter is on enthusiasm. Did you notice that we started with passion and ending with enthusiasm? These are the pinnacles!! Passion and enthusiasm are needed t be the teacher we all should want to be!

Dave Burgess has some wonderful insights throughout this amazing book. The one quote I would thought I felt hit home and we all know teachers like this is and I quote, "I'll always choose a teacher with enthusiasm over weak technique over one with brilliant strategies but who is punching a clock. Why? An enthusiastic teacher can learn technique, method, and strategy, but it is almost impossible to light a fire inside the charred heart of a burned out teacher." This quote really says a lot about our system.

Enthusiasm is what makes our students succeed. Enthusiasm is what keeps our hearts young. Enthusiasm is what makes our classrooms a second home not just a job. Enthusiasm is what sets teachers apart. Enthusiasm is what make the students want to come to school. Enthusiasm is the sark that lights the flame inside every child that enters our room.

Without enthusiasm and passion what do we have? We have clock punchers!

Remember if you are enthusiastic those around you will be enthusiastic. As the doors sang, Come on baby light my fire!! This is what our students are looking for and need. Somebody to light their fire for learning and success!

I loved this video and thought I would place it here. Yes, teachers are people too! This is a point that many people seem to overlook!!

Getting Acquainted Linky

I am linking up with all og my blogging friends and those who I hope will soon be my blogging friends for this awesome getting acquainted linky hosted by Flying Into First.

Here is what we need to do!! The linky is a tic tac toe board. You need to choose three topics to write about and they must make a tic tac toe! So here is the board!!

So here is my tic tac toe!!

1. I went to ______________ college and a favorite memory

Well, I went to the University of Florida!! GOOOOO GAAATTTTOOOOOOORRRSSSSS!!!

and my favorite memories of school have to be all around the Football games at the Swamp!! If you have ever been there you will understand the amazing feeling you get when you enter and when you chomp your way through a gator football game. The tailgating and the games are absolutely life changing!!!

2. Share about your first year of teaching.
Well, my first year of teaching was in a kindergarten class with 42 children. I was overwhelmed. I had very little assistance from anyone. I started in February and I was the 7th teacher to have braved this situation. I would have to say that it was like herding cats. The children were everywhere!! These cowboys know how I felt!!

I hope you enjoyed the video because it depicts what happens when you out 42 kindergarteners and a new teacher in one room!!!!

3. My grade to teach and why

By far my favorite grade to teach is Kindergarten. Why???? Because they come in as young children without many of the skills needed and they leave young ladies and young men reading, writing, adding and smiling. There is an energy that yu get when you teach Kindergarten! The students are amazing and their zest for life and love of learning makes every day a new and wonderful experience! Who would not love to teach in a world like this!
