Grinch Day!

The week before Christmas break has always been my absolute favorite week ever since I started teaching over 20 years ago!

I love the innocence of my students and how this is such a magical time of year for them!

To start the week, the first day is always Grinch Day! I absolutely love this book written by Dr. Seuss!

So this amazing character comes to our room every year and just plays tricks on my kids and leaves them treats for being the best grinches they can be!

Here he took all of our pencils and left us nothing but green colored pencils to write with all day!

Here he left us Grinch Dust to spread on our yard to make sure Christmas comes, Grinch pills to take when we feel grinchy and green candy canes!

We focused on the central message!

We did our grinchy adjectives!

We made our Grinch and wrote about what we would do to make him grin!

Of course we made a special ornament! I love this ornament and it was easy and inexpensive to make!

I am ent to Michaels and they had a container of 35 clear plastic ornaments on sale for 7.99. I also bought bright green acrylic paint for 9.99. I also bought a red glitter sticker sheet for only 1.69.

Each child got an ornament. I poured some paint in it and they tapped it until the entire inside was covered in paint. They put the top back on it and cut out a heart out if the glitter paper and put it in the ornament!

Then they wrote Merry Grinchmas 2017 on the back with a permanent marker and they were done!

We dressed in either green or grinch wear! I love my hat, shirt and Grinch gloves I got from @universalstudios.

They made grinch bags to carry home all of their grinch goodies!!

They ended their day with grinch juice!!

Happy grinch day everyone!!!

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!!!

There are many special days throughout the school year that we celebrate with our children but I have to say that March 2 is my all time favorite day of all!

March 2 as we all know is Read Across America  Day or Dr. Seuss' birthday!!!

To celebrate it this year, I did a room transformation and my kids walked into Seussville!!

I put red and white table cloths on their tables! In the center of each table was a Dr. Seuss book and coordinating stuffed animal that I bought at Kohls!!!!

I put all of their supplies into Dr. Seuss pencil cases!

But what I loved most of all was how my lights turned out!!! By cutting pool noodles from the top tonbottom and wrapping them around the light post and adding a fluff ball, my lights became truffula trees!!! They looked amazing!!

If you noticed, I made a lorax to go with this truffula tree!!

From the ceiling and the doorway, I found  amazing Dr. Seuss swirly decorations at Party City to hang!!!

The table by the door was transformed into a birthday celebration table with a Dr. Seuss birthday cake hat, goody bags, blowers and photo booth props for all!!!

Target had an awesome basket in their clearance section that went amazingly with my theme!!! Don't you just love Target!!!

My morning message board also had a Seuss theme today!!

The hats for my kids were bought at Party City as well and I loved them because they were sturdy and adjustable!! Party City rocked the Dr. Seuss stuff this year!!!

I can't forget my lightbox!! Of course, I had to make inserts to go with the day!!!

So that was the inside of my classroom, now the outside!!!

I, of course, had to change my door!!!

I also created a photo booth area for my kids to enjoy!! Check out the area and their pictures!!

We had our principal and assistant principal come and read to us! We heard Green Eggs and Ham and One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish!! The kids loved it!!

We also made Green Eggs and Ham from pudding, green food coloring and vanilla wafers!!! The kids loved it!!!

Of course I had to use my all time favorite app on my iPhone, The Cat Cam!!! I love how the pictures came out!!!

We made Sam I Am from Green Eggs and Ham and wrote about whether or not we like Green Eggs and Ham!! We also read books about Dr. Seuss and learned all about his life!!!

I love the shirt one of my firsties came in wearing today!!!

So now you can see why today is my favorite day with my firsties and I have to say it was an awesome day!!!

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

We love Dr. Seuss! What school teacher doesn't? What first grader doesn't? This has to be one of my favorite days to celebrate!!!

First, we have to make the hat! Now, I have always made these stovepipe hats because I just think they look so authentic! The kids love them!

After we made our hats, I took their pictures with The Cat in the Hat app on my iPhone. I love this app!

This year, I focused on the book, Green Eggs and Ham. So we read it, wrote about it, watched it and made green eggs out of pudding, food coloring and Nilla cookies!

This was an awesome day! Happy Birthday to a great man!
