Dental Health Padlet

Meet the Teacher Monday!

Yes, I know this is my third post today! I am just in the blogging mood! I am linking up again with Trina from the ordinary to extraordinary classroom for Meet the Teacher Monday. 

This week, the seven questions are focused on Have you ever......

1. Have you ever been on TV?


No, but I did try out for Wheel of Fortune. That is as 

close to being on tv as I probably ever will be.


2. Have you ever been trapped in an elevator? 


No, thank goodness!


3. Have you ever made anyone cry? 


Not on purpose but I have made my five year old 

cry. She cries to make you feel sorry for her. She 

thinks tears will make it so she will not 

get in trouble. Not!


4.Have you ever walked into a window because it 

was just that clean? 


I have to admit that yes I have done this and yes I 

was embarrassed. But I am happy to say that there 

were others that also walked into the window after 

me. :)


5. Have you ever fainted in public?


Yes I have. We were in Elmo's World at Sesame 

Street Place. I felt funny and told my parents that I 

felt weird. next thing I know I am lying on the 

ground surrounded by Big Bird, Elmo, Grover and 

Abby Cadabby. To add salt to my wounds, I 

was taken out on a stretcher down Sesame Street 

past Mr. Hoopers store where Bert and Ernie waved 

at me as I was being pushed by the paramedics. This 

was my daughters first visit to Sesame Street Place!


6. Have you ever gone to a restaurant and ate, only 

to realize you didn't have any money? 


No and I would be extremely embarrassed if I did!



7. Have you ever gone to greet a family member or 

friend and then noticed it was someone else?


Yes, I have and it was rather embarrassing. This is 

something I think many of us have done!

Must Read Monday Linky! Tooth Fairy

I am linking up with Teaching Maddeness for her Must Read Monday Linky party! This is another great resource for us to find interesting books recommended by fellow educators!

The book I am sharing is You Think It's Easy Being The Tooth Fairy written by Sheri Bell-Rehwoldt.

We will be reading this book this week for our unit on Dental Health. I adore this book about a spunky, red headed tooth fairy who  shows us what actually goes on during her visits to gather the children's lost teeth! She travels around on a flying tooth and uses high tech gadgets to do her job. Her list of do's and don'ts of what to do after your tooth falls out is unique and witty. This story shows that it takes a lot of muscle to be the tooth fairy. 

The illustrations are colorful and they capture the personality of this spunky tooth fairy!

Storybook Sunday on Monday!

I am linking up with Paula from Paula's Place for Storybook Sunday. This linky is a way for us to share storybooks with each other. I love books! What teacher doesn't! This linky provides us with a resource to find wonderful storybooks to share with our class!

The storybook I want to share is Olympig by Victoria Jameson.

This is a great story to use to teach children that doing your best and not giving up is more important then winning! Boomer the pig is training for the Animal Olympics. Each event he enters, he comes in last but no matter how frustrated he feels, he never gives up and he maintains a positive attitude. The illustrations are wonderful.

This story encourages children to never give up no matter what!

Olympics come to Room G7

We absolutely love the winter Olympics! My kids and I have read books about the Olympics and have talked nonstop about all of the events that we have watched!

Here are the books we read and their links:

We read emergent readers and participated in small groups that were centered around the Olympics!

We answered the question what is your favorite Olympic sport and filled out a graph. This was from the unit created by Kindergarten Smorgasboard!

And to end our Olympic Unit, we sat in a bobsled (made out of a water heater box, masking tape and white contact paper with computer generated Sochi and USA signs as well as the Olympic rings), wore real skis and stood on the podium with our medals we made and we even got to hold a torch!!!!

So, this is the end of our unit and we will be looking forward to the next Winter Games in four years!

We would like to say how proud we are of all of the USA Olympic athletes that competed in the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi!

Polar Bears

We finished our polar bear unit this week!

The kids loved all of the activities that we did. They were so excited about all of the books we read and all of the facts they learned! They could not believe that a polar bear has black skin, that it's hair is transparent and that it can swim 90 miles!

They were also in disbelief that blubber is what keeps it warm! So we did the blubber glove experiment! They were so excited and funny!

The looks on their faces were priceless when they put their hand in the blubber glove and then their other hand in the cold water!

The one book we read that they loved was Who Would Win? Polar Bear versus Grizzly Bear by Jerry Pallotta. They made a prediction, told us why they made the prediction and we graphed them. We then read the book. They had to tell me why the Grizzly Bear won!

We made Polar Bears and the children wrote one fact from our chart onto their Polar Bear.

We also labeled a polar bear and wrote about him! Our centers were also polar bear themed!

So that was our Polar Bear Unit!
